Abstract

This paper examines the contribution of the social and solidarity economy (SSE) to territorial development and community resilience by focusing on territorial embeddedness, cooperative governance, social innovation, rural development, inclusion and crisis adaptation. The literature shows that SSE organizations generate territorial effects through relationships connecting communities, public institutions, productive actors and external networks. Cooperatives and social enterprises can support employment, local value creation, social cohesion and the sustainable mobilization of territorial resources, but these outcomes depend on governance quality, organizational capabilities and institutional support. The evidence also indicates that resilience is not limited to organizational survival. It involves the capacity to maintain essential relationships, reorganize activities, mobilize resources and develop new collective responses during periods of disruption. Research on Moroccan cooperatives further illustrates how sustainability, decent work, territorial branding, literacy, agricultural value creation and women’s participation can influence local development. The paper therefore argues that SSE contributes most effectively to territorial resilience when local embeddedness is combined with managerial capacity, external connectivity and supportive public institutions. These findings support an integrated approach to SSE policy in which organizational development, territorial governance and community capabilities are treate
